Sox clinch a playoff spot 2008

All the hard work, down turns, infusion of rookies and injuries did not stop the Boston Red Sox from making the post season again.

Tim Wakefield tied a Red Sox record with is 10th win tying him with Roger Clemens for most seasons with at leats 10 wins with 10. Good luck to him next year winning 10+ again.

Great job to Pedrioa, MVP and Youk Team MVP, Dice K and John Lester for improving on last year's production. Beckett deserved a bit better than his record shows. Last year it was Wakefield who got spotty run support, Josh's turn this time. Mike Lowell and Big Papi went down with injuries too. Nice to have kept Coco and too bad we cant trade Lugo and get Hanley back. No offense Lowrie, you can play third when Mike needs a rest and leave Youk at first. Ellsbury has figured out how to hit a change up and thats where his numbers will now head, up. Welcome Jason Bay and Paul Byrd. Tek is still worth his weight in gold. Schill, hope you get better.

Lets hope we are still playing in late October!

Well, Thursday was a good day. We arrived at 10.30 to the ball park and tahts 2.5 hours before the game with Boston College. We saw Larry Luchino and he signed the balls we brought for us and then out came all the regulars except Manny who was playing in the night game. Jacoby signed a couple tickets for my friend Megan back home. Our baseballs, now filling up required we get our second ball out. these balls were tossed to Mat and Kyle from Manny during fielding practice.

Then Hideki Okijima signed for us followed by Kevin Youkilis, Clay Buckholtz, Jed Lowrie, Bobby Kielty. Morley from 60 minutes was there doing a piece for a future story.

The game started and for 2 innnings Josh Beckett pitched as if nobody would ever get a hit off him again. We left before all the fireworks - 24-0.

The night game against Northeastern was a 6.05 start. The sun was warm and the smells of hot dogs were in the air at our 5.25 arrival.

We took up our position infront of the third base bag and patiently watched BP and infield practice. The Sox came out and completed their pregame rituals and Coco Crisp came over and signed as well as Manny and Jacoby signed my hat.

We went down and took a few pictures of the Worlds Series Trophies which were set up way down the rightfield concourse. Sunday we will stand in line and get our pictures taken with them. It happens to be free!!

Friday was a beautiful day in Fort Myers. the sun was out, low 80s and a cooling breeze. First day for position players to take to the practice fields. My sons and I were fortunate enough to chat with Johnny Pesky, get his autograph and a couple pictures with him.

After watching pitchers practice pick off moves and covering first, everyone lines up along the small passage between the fields and the club house for autographs and maybe a picture. The starting pitchers fly by without stopping albiet Julian Tavarez who stopped for a few on the way out to the fields. We were again in the right place as Kyle Snyder, Kyle Jackson, Justin Masterson, Bryan Corey, Hunter Jones graced our sweet spot Pesky ball and as it was all aout to wrap up, class act Jason Varitek came back out and circled the entire edge of the lawn signing for kids. It appears to be his style, signing for kids, because he passed by each adult holding out a ball, bat, hat or photo and only signed for kids. Thank goodness I had my 2 kids with me or I would not have gotten mine signed!

We waited for Tim Wakefield to do his 10.0 interview hoping to finally get him on a ball but so far its year 9 and he is still remains the elusive one!

Very nice blog Kevin, it is certainly the way to go in this techno-age :^)

Just an update to your title regarding the Red Sox page, as they actually took it in 4, finishing the series in Colorado at Coors Field :^) I know this only because of my boys, who were glued to the set until the final out, LOL!

All the best,

~Pam :^)
